Benjamin Gaar (1748-1821) and Margaret Crigler (1759-1806)

Benjamin Gaar and Margaret Crigler were born and married in Madison County, Virginia.  Margaret died in Madison County, and Benjamin died in Mercer County, Kentucky.

Benjamin's parents: John Adam Gaar (1711-1793) and Elizabeth Kaifer (1722-1783)

Margaret's parents: Nicholas Crigler (1722-1789) and Margaret Kaifer (1725-1771)

Children of Benjamin and Margaret:

• Elizabeth Gaar (1781-1812) married William Rowe (1775-1851)
• Benjamin Gaar (1790-?) married Crigler
• Adam Gaar (1792-1860) married Margaret McCubin
• Rhoda Gaar (1794-1829) married John Hudgins
• Lewis Proctor Gaar (1797-1854) married Fetnah Jane Smith (1815-1904)

US Census records:

• 1820, Mercer County, Kentucky; Benjamin and two others in the household, plus nine slaves.

Benjamin and Margaret were first cousins; their mothers were sisters.

In 1810 or 1811, after Margaret died, Benjamin and his family migrated more than 500 miles from Madison County, Virginia, to Mercer County, Kentucky.  He married his second wife, Lydia Fowler, in Mercer County in 1815, and his will was recorded in Mercer County in 1821.
